B.A. in Humanities and Anthropology, Washington State University-Pullman

M.S., Environmental Science, Washington State University-Pullman

Currently pursuing a PhD in Washington State University’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Michael’s research deals with the use of rhizobial inoculants to improve the biological nitrogen fixation in legume crops in eastern Africa, as well as the limits of this technology and the development project more generally in helping build autonomy and capacities.

His work in Africa has added valuable breadth to the lab’s established work in Brazil and the Pacific Northwest.
